This box is primarily made out of birdseye maple but the top is locally harvested arbutus burl from a large tree that came down in a storm.

It has high quality brass hinges that open 190 degrees. The splines have a structural purpose which is to further strengthen the mitered corners as well as adding a bit of interest. They are made from a precious stash of ebony which is more than 100 years old, as is the lifting tab.

The entire box has a hand rubbed varnish/tung oil finish, both inside and out.
